A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck
A Community Read – June 22-24, 2014
The journey began on Mount Desert Island with a special program at the Mount Desert Island High School’s Higgins-Demas Theatre, featuring Newbery Medal Winner Richard Peck and his book A Long Way From Chicago. Peck launched a three-day celebration of reading adventures in which 8 libraries, 7 schools and an estimated 500 readers on Mount Desert Island, her outer islands and Trenton enjoyed a selection of hilarious, poignant, and adventurous stories by Richard Peck.
Participants were asked to pick up a free copy of A Long Way from Chicago at their local community library beginning on June 7, until copies run out, and a schedule of library events featuring other great books by Richard Peck and fun-filled activities. Richard Peck participated in each of the library programs on Monday, June 23 and Tuesday, June 24.
All programs were free and open to the public.
