Telling stories with music
Steve Costanza has visited numerous schools as part of IRW’s Literary Links to Music program. During these visits, he plays the piano and talks about music and composing. He also discusses the process of writing and illustrating his book, Vivaldi and the Invisible Orchestra. Steve’s love for music comes through as he takes students through the evolution of music over time − demonstrating the sounds of jazz, ragtime and rock & roll.
A former professional piano player, Steve now shows his love of music by creating picture books with musical themes. He is the author of Vivaldi and the Invisible Orchestra (2012), winner of the 2013 Bank Street College of Education Best Children's Book of the Year and Mozart Finds a Melody (2004). He illustrated Ten Big Toes and a Prince’s Nose (2010); Noodleman: the Pasta Superhero (2002); A Christmas Spider’s Miracle (2011) and Smudge and the Book of Mistakes: A Christmas Story (2012).
IRW creates worksheets to supplement the books we bring to life in the classroom, and provide these worksheets to teachers and students to use in preparation for their school visit. Here is a worksheet link for one of Steve's books:
