Thursday wasn’t an ordinary day for seventh graders attending MDIRSS schools. It was THE day students heard internationally celebrated author Lois Lowry talk about her Newbery medal-winning book The Giver.
Ms. Lowry told the audience of approx. 135, how she got the idea for creating the characters and story for the book, commented on her writing process, answered several burning questions, and conveyed stories from her personal life. Fantastic!
Warm thanks to the readers, teachers and volunteer facilitators who helped make this event so memorable. The combination of all, especially having the honor and privilege of hosting Ms. Lowry, a “rock star” among an elite group of prize winning authors, made May 24, 2012 a day and an experience to remember for many months and years to come.
