Artist Rebekah Raye and author Kim Ridley visited beautiful Frenchboro yesterday, May 21. What a great way to wind up IRW’s Island Book & Author Program for 2014! Frenchboro’s one-room schoolhouse with 8 children ranging from pre-school to 7th grade was full of the sounds of raindrops and frog croaks, and stories about wood frogs, spotted salamanders, and other vernal pool residents. Then, the stories were brought to life as Rebecca Raye demonstrated her way of illustrating books; she made sure each child knew that their way might be different, and that they each had their own style. All of the creations and stories were imaginative and magical. Every child received a free copy of the gorgeously written and illustrated, award-winning book, The Secret Pool.
