Join IRW at Maine Coast Heritage Trust’s Stone Barn Farm Preserve on Sunday, September 25, from 2:00–4:00pm to meet Sophie Blackall and celebrate her much-awaited new picture book, Farmhouse! Hear Sophie read from Farmhouse and talk about its creation, and her life as an author and illustrator. Copies of Farmhouse will be available for purchase; proceeds support IRW’s programs & Stone Barn Farm Preserve.

About Sophie

Sophie Blackall has illustrated dozens of beautiful books including the Caldecott Medal-winning titles Hello Lighthouse and Finding Winnie by Lindsay Mattick. She is also the proprietor of Milkwood, a creative retreat housed in a restored dairy barn, adjacent to a falling-down house upon which this book is based. When not at the farm, she lives with her family in Brooklyn, NY.

About Stone Barn Farm Preserve

Featuring a historic Mount Desert Island farm, this 128-acre preserve is surrounded by scenic fields and pleasant forests that lead to Northeast Creek. Currently, the buildings on this property are undergoing renovation, and this event will take place outdoors. We’ll hear about this special preserve and the work being done to preserve its unique character.

Directions

487 Crooked Road, Bar Harbor, ME

From Trenton, head south on Route 3 to Mount Desert Island. Stay right after the bridge to continue south on Route 102. Drive 2.2 miles and then turn left onto the Crooked Road. Continue 2.4 miles to the preserve parking lot on the left.

Please note: Rain location TBD. There are no restroom facilities available on the preserve at this time.
