Join us at the Henry D. Moore Library in Steuben and spend the day with author and naturalist Kim Ridley and her picture book The Secret Stream to explore the language of science. Young writers will get the chance to learn how to use observations and noticing to write exciting hooks about organisms in and around streams. Weather permitting we’ll get outside to have hands-on experiences! This is a wonderful opportunity for homeschooling families to experience an IRW author presentation & workshops outside of a school setting. Each child will receive a copy of The Secret Stream, signed by Kim.
What to Plan For
Participants should plan to come with a grownup and bring a bagged lunch; this is not a drop-off program. This program is loosely recommended for ages 7–11, but we welcome children of other ages for whom this program sounds like a good fit! There will also be a storytime with The Secret Stream for younger children at the library during the day–details to come!
About Kim
Kim Ridley is a science writer, editor, and author of the picture books The Secret Pool, The Secret Bay, The Secret Stream, and others! Her passion is sharing her love of nature and writing with children and adults. A Maine native whose roots go back many generations, Kimberly is an avid birder and naturalist who loves exploring wetlands, beaches, woods, and other wild places around her home. She never leaves home without her binoculars and hand lens, green rubber boots, and a notebook.
