Cynthia Lord wowed kids at the Deer isle – Stonington Elementary School last Monday. She read Hot Rod Hamster to grades k-2 and discussed the process of writing a book and working with an illustrator. She then turned her attention to grades 5-7 and her Lupine Award winning book Touch Blue. Students (82) had received free copies of the book earlier and had participated in book related activities and discussion in preparation for Cynthia’s arrival. She introduced the writing process to kids touching on four things that helped her become an author ( read, write, learn, and dream). In separate workshops she provided a framework – WOW – to use in developing a story.
It was a grand day, memorable in so many ways. Cynthia will speak about her experiences with IRW programs at our Annual meeting in August. Until then she is traveling to give various programs around the country and writing in her little office at home. Check out her website for more information about her books and travels.
